Tree Energy Solutions, a global leader in green energy, and SOCAR, Azerbaijan’s national oil company, have signed a Joint Study Agreement to explore the development of an electric natural gas project in Azerbaijan. The agreement enables both companies to evaluate the technical, economic, and commercial feasibility of implementing TES’s advanced upstream module technology in the region.
The collaboration represents a significant milestone for TES and SOCAR as they combine their expertise in renewable energy and infrastructure. Azerbaijan’s strategic geographical position, coupled with SOCAR’s extensive energy sector experience, creates a promising environment for the production of e-NG. This innovative green molecule could be scaled up for broader applications and transported to Europe using existing gas infrastructure, such as the Southern Gas Corridor.

TES is recognised for its leadership in producing and commercialising e-NG, a clean e-fuel generated from renewable electricity and carbon dioxide. Its innovative upstream module integrates electrolyser, methaniser, and balance-of-plant (BOP) systems to produce e-NG with high efficiency and reliability. The adoption of this technology in Azerbaijan could play a key role in advancing the country’s green energy transition.
The study will assess the project’s scope and evaluate its potential benefits for Azerbaijan, including green energy infrastructure development, job creation, and environmental improvements. SOCAR’s regional expertise is expected to provide a strong foundation for maximising the project’s impact and aligning it with local economic and environmental goals.
Marco Alverà, CEO and co-founder of TES, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to join forces with SOCAR in exploring this ambitious project in Azerbaijan. This partnership reflects our commitment to harnessing the unique benefits of hydrogen through e-fuels leveraging existing infrastructure—what we believe to be the most effective way to unlock hydrogen’s potential. By delivering a scalable e-fuel that reaches customers without requiring new technology or infrastructure, we are setting the stage for an immediate impact on global decarbonisation.”
Afgan Isayev, vice president of SOCAR, highlighted the significance of the agreement, saying, “This Joint Study Agreement with TES represents a significant step forward in our commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the energy sector. By exploring the potential of synthetic methane production, we aim to leverage strategic resources and infrastructure to contribute to global decarbonisation efforts.”
This partnership positions Azerbaijan as a potential leader in the production and export of green e-fuels, reinforcing its role in the global energy transition while addressing the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions.
