Rotterdam, Netherlands – Service Terminal Rotterdam (STR), a leading bunker facility located in the heart of the Port of Rotterdam, has announced the launch of Project GreenSTR, a major infrastructure development aimed at supporting the growing demand for sustainable marine fuels and biofuel storage solutions.

STR currently specialises in the storage and handling of fuels for the marine market and is recognised for its flexibility in managing a wide range of fuel oil grades and bioblending operations. Strategically positioned within the Port of Rotterdam, the terminal benefits from extensive connectivity through its jetties, which can accommodate various vessel sizes as well as barges.

Project GreenSTR is designed to address the increasing need for dedicated infrastructure for the storage and blending of alternative marine fuels. The development will be constructed on a vacant plot adjacent to STR’s existing terminal and will comprise approximately 100,000 cubic meters of new storage capacity.

The new facility will be capable of handling a diverse range of renewable and low-carbon products, including biodiesel and (m)ethanol, supporting the maritime industry’s transition toward more sustainable fuel solutions.

As part of the project’s development, STR has appointed Vicoma as its engineering partner, leveraging the firm’s expertise in industrial and energy infrastructure projects. In parallel, Antea Group Netherlands is supporting the project by managing the permitting process.

With Project GreenSTR, STR aims to strengthen Rotterdam’s position as a key hub for sustainable marine fuels while providing the specialised storage and blending infrastructure required to facilitate the energy transition within the maritime sector.
