Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine has expanded its Global Core product line, offering enhanced coating system consistency and specification efficiency worldwide. These universal coatings provide asset owners, engineers, specifiers, and applicators with confidence in compatibility, colour matching, and performance across multi-regional projects.
The newly introduced Global Core coatings include an inorganic zinc primer, an epoxy primer, an epoxy intermediate coat, and a urethane topcoat. These versatile products can be applied in various combinations to create multi-layer coating systems for corrosion protection and aesthetics. They are designed for use in commercial infrastructure, bridge and highway, energy, manufacturing and processing, water and wastewater, and other industrial applications. Each coating is formulated for ease of application, ensuring consistent quality for customers regardless of location.

The new additions to the Sherwin-Williams Global Core product range comply with the rigorous requirements of ISO 12944:2018 and NORSOK M501 standards. These internationally recognised standards define the performance characteristics of coatings across different service environments, including the severe C5 and CX conditions outlined in ISO 12944:2018. By adhering to these global benchmarks, the coatings maintain uniform formulations, technical specifications, performance data, standard colours, and application characteristics, regardless of where they are manufactured or used.
Sean Grady, Senior Global Product Director at Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine, highlighted the importance of consistency in coating systems, stating: “Consistency enables uniformity – which are both key characteristics customers look for in coating systems when operating around the globe. For example, a project featuring structural steel may be engineered in one region, fabricated and coated in another, and then shipped elsewhere for assembly. Along the way, the initial specifiers, original coating applicators, and final touchup crew must be able to select the same coatings regardless of their location. Our Global Core products offer the same formulations and performance characteristics worldwide, allowing us to service projects wherever materials are needed.”
The new coatings enhance productivity through fast drying times, allowing for quicker application of additional coats and expedited handling of coated assets. Their application is further simplified with easy sprayability, tolerance, and standard mixing ratios, reducing the likelihood of errors. The coatings’ broad performance versatility also enables applicators to streamline inventory by stocking fewer additional products.
The newly launched Sherwin-Williams Global Core high-performance coatings can be specified and used worldwide without concerns over formulation consistency. The products include:
Zinc Clad® 2500 – Inorganic Zinc Primer
This primer provides superior corrosion protection for bare-blasted steel in fabrication shop environments, meeting ISO 12944 CX standards. Featuring a 45-minute dry-to-handle time and a four-hour dry-to-recoat time, it enables accelerated shop throughput and rapid asset delivery. The primer also offers excellent transfer efficiency and reduced dry spray, minimising waste and cleanup time.
Macropoxy® 4600 – Corrosion Inhibitive Epoxy Primer
Designed for ISO 12944 C5 environments, this high-solids epoxy zinc phosphate primer delivers effective anti-corrosion protection for carbon steel. It offers a fast application process with no sweat-in time, a three-hour dry-to-handle time, and a two-hour minimum recoat window. Additionally, its low-temperature cure ensures drying even in winter conditions.
Macropoxy® 2600 – Epoxy Intermediate Coat
Serving as a high-build intermediate layer in three-coat systems, this epoxy provides additional corrosion resistance and application efficiencies. It shares the same catalyst as Macropoxy 4600, reducing inventory needs for applicators. Available in a micaceous iron oxide-enhanced version, it offers improved overcoating properties and barrier protection for aggressive environments.
Acrolon® 7700 – Urethane Topcoat
This two-component, high-solids acrylic polyurethane provides a durable finish with excellent resistance to atmospheric exposure, gloss retention, and colour stability, even in corrosive environments. It features fast drying times for accelerated shop throughput and a simple 4:1 mix ratio to minimise application errors.
By expanding its Global Core product line, Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine continues to support worldwide industries with high-performance, universally consistent coatings, enabling efficient specification, application, and long-term asset protection.
