OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy producer in Southeast Europe, and Saint-Gobain Romania, a division of the Saint-Gobain Group, a global leader in sustainable construction solutions, have announced the signing of an agreement for the supply of renewable electricity to all Saint-Gobain facilities in Romania.
Under the terms of the agreement, OMV Petrom will provide approximately 800 GWh of green energy to 14 Saint-Gobain locations in Romania over the next five years, starting from January 2026. The electricity will be sourced from wind and photovoltaic sources, contributing to decarbonisation objectives.
Franck Neel, Member of the OMV Petrom Executive Board responsible for Gas & Power, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting Romania’s energy transition through investments of around 11 billion euros by 2030, with a significant portion allocated to low and zero-carbon projects. He emphasised the partnership with Saint-Gobain as a step towards a low-carbon future for the Romanian industry.
Ovidiu Păscutiu, CEO of Saint-Gobain Romania, highlighted the agreement as a milestone in the company’s journey towards reducing scope 1 and 2 emissions by 33 percent by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions by 2050. He emphasised the importance of trusted partners like OMV Petrom in advancing towards a greener future and reiterated Saint-Gobain’s commitment to environmentally friendly energy sources and sustainable production processes.
With this investment, Saint-Gobain Romania will meet 100 percent of its energy needs at all its facilities, including Saint-Gobain Glass (Călărași), Saint-Gobain Isover (Ploiesti), Saint-Gobain Rigips (Turda and Cheia), Saint-Gobain Weber (Turda, Brănești, Suceava), Duraziv (Popești Leordeni), Saint-Gobain Prime Glass Working (Vălenii de Munte), and Chryso Romania (Ariceștii Rahtivani).
