QatarEnergy has signed a long-term sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with Guangzhou Guanggang Gases & Energy Co. Ltd for the supply of 100 million cubic feet per annum of helium to China.

The 20-year agreement marks the first direct long-term SPA between Qatar and China for helium supply. The high-purity helium will be sourced from Qatar’s world-class helium production facilities in Ras Laffan.

The signing ceremony took place at QatarEnergy’s headquarters in Doha, attended by senior executives from QatarEnergy and G-gas. The event was witnessed by His excellency Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, minister of state for energy affairs and president and CEO of QatarEnergy.

H.E. minister Al-Kaabi highlighted the significance of the deal, stating:
“China is a major market and destination for Qatari helium, and we are very pleased to enter into this direct long-term partnership with G-gas as we help meet the growing demand for helium both in China and across the globe.”

He further emphasised Qatar’s role as a leading helium exporter, adding:
“This agreement expands QatarEnergy’s partnerships worldwide. With our North Field LNG expansion projects, Qatar’s helium capacity will more than double, supporting industries that rely on helium for human development.”

Helium plays a crucial role in scientific research, medical technology, high-tech manufacturing, space exploration, and defense industries. As global demand for helium continues to rise, this agreement reinforces QatarEnergy’s position as a key supplier in the international market while strengthening trade ties with China.
