Following a competitive tender process, px Group, an infrastructure solutions company based in Teesside, has been awarded an operations and maintenance contract by the Atlantic Fuel Supply Company (AFSC) for its fuel terminal located in Foynes, Ireland. This decision was influenced by px Group’s extensive experience and commitment to safety standards. AFSC itself is a joint venture between Inver Energy and the East Cork Oil Company.

The fuel terminal in Foynes boasts a state-of-the-art design with a capacity of 82,000 m³ and 18 storage tanks. It is equipped to handle a variety of fuels as well as a wide range of biofuels. Its strategic infrastructure ensures a secure supply and blending flexibility, positioning it as a reliable source to meet the increasing demand for lower-carbon fuels. The terminal has the capability to import products from two berths within Foynes Harbour, which is the only deepwater harbour on the West Coast of Ireland.

As a portfolio company of Ara Partners, a global private equity firm focused on decarbonising the industrial economy, px Group will oversee the operations, maintenance, and monitoring of the terminal. This includes delivering a variety of optimisation services and managing the terminal’s eight employees.

With over 25 years of experience in managing and operating strategic industrial assets, this contract marks the second fuel terminal in px Group’s portfolio, following its management of the Northampton Fuel Terminal since 2018.

Neil Grimley, managing director of downstream operations at px Group, expressed enthusiasm about the contract, stating, “We are delighted to be awarded this opportunity by AFSC and extend our O&M expertise in Ireland as part of our European growth strategy. We don’t just provide a service – we operate facilities as if they are our own and look forward to working with the on-site and wider AFSC team to ensure the highest levels of safety and efficiency.”
