Petredec has announced plans to expand its LPG terminal under construction in Tanga, Tanzania, by an additional 5,000 metric tonnes, increasing the facility’s total storage capacity to 25,000 metric tonnes.
The announcement coincides with the International Energy Agency’s high-level event on Clean Cooking in Africa, where governments and industry leaders are discussing ways to accelerate access to clean cooking solutions across the continent.

Developed in partnership with the ASAS Group of Companies, the Tanga terminal is expected to become the largest LPG import and storage facility of its kind in Tanzania. The expanded capacity is intended to strengthen supply security, improve import efficiency and support wider access to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for clean cooking across Tanzania and the wider East African region.
Petredec said the investment reflects its view that expanding access to clean cooking depends on resilient LPG supply chains and sufficient import infrastructure to ensure reliable, efficient and affordable fuel supplies as demand grows. The company added that large-scale infrastructure investment, combined with dependable long-term LPG supply, is essential to supporting sustainable market development.
The announcement follows discussions at the recent IEA–World LPG Association LPG Leadership Summit, where the role of resilient supply chains in expanding clean cooking access across Africa was highlighted. Petredec also confirmed that it has joined the International Energy Agency’s Clean Cooking Security Programme Task Force, where it will contribute its experience across the LPG value chain.
Construction of the expanded Tanga LPG Terminal is progressing, with completion of the 25,000-tonne facility expected by the end of the third quarter of 2028.
