Neptune Energy has commenced drilling at the Adorf Z19 gas production well, located in the municipality of Georgsdorf in north-west Germany. The drilling operation is being carried out by KCA Deutag, with the well expected to reach a final depth of approximately 4,200 metres by May 2025. Following the completion of Adorf Z19, a second well, Adorf Z20, is planned to be drilled at the same location.

In addition to drilling activities, a dedicated processing plant is under construction at the site to treat the extracted gas, with completion scheduled for 2025.

Neptune Energy’s CEO, Andreas Scheck, highlighted the significance of the project, stating: “The Adorf Carboniferous field development is one of our most promising activities in Germany and demonstrates our desire to grow the business in this area. The Adorf field is already an important contributor to domestic energy supplies in Germany, providing enough gas to heat more than 200,000 households.”

The Adorf gas field was discovered in 2020, with the first well, Adorf Z15, commencing production in the same year. A second well, Adorf Z16, started production at the beginning of 2022. Subsequent wells, Adorf Z17 and Adorf Z18, further increased Neptune Energy’s production in the licence area, reaching approximately 9,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) in 2023.

Neptune Energy maintains full ownership of the Adorf Carboniferous gas field and continues to expand its operations to strengthen domestic energy production in Germany.
