Evos, a European liquid energy and chemicals storage operator, and North Atlantic, a Canadian energy company, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop a liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC)-based hydrogen import project at the Port of Amsterdam.

The proposed project aims to facilitate the import of LOHC from Canada for storage at Evos’ Amsterdam terminals. Hydrogen will subsequently be released at a newly developed dehydrogenation facility located nearby and distributed to industrial end users through a dedicated hydrogen pipeline network.

Both companies are members of the Hydrogen to Amsterdam (H2A) consortium, an alliance of industry, government, and technology stakeholders focused on advancing large-scale hydrogen import initiatives in Amsterdam. North Atlantic is developing an integrated hydrogen supply chain for the European market, encompassing renewable hydrogen production in Canada and transportation to Europe using LOHC technology. Evos, the largest tank storage provider in the Port of Amsterdam, offers dedicated terminal capacity and extensive distribution infrastructure. Its two Amsterdam terminals include deep-sea berths and direct connections to key logistics networks, including Schiphol Airport.

According to Evos, the partnership represents a significant step toward establishing Amsterdam as a major hydrogen import hub. The company noted that the project is progressing into its next phase, with a Final Investment Decision (FID) anticipated by the end of the year.

North Atlantic stated that the agreement strengthens its position in the emerging hydrogen export market and supports its strategy of supplying renewable hydrogen to European customers. The company highlighted its collaboration with Evos and its relationship with the Port of Amsterdam as key foundations for building a long-term presence within Amsterdam’s developing hydrogen hub.
