For the first time, EP Petroecuador exported a shipment of 1,080,000 barrels of Oriente crude through the OCP Terminal. It used the interconnection of the Balao – Punta Gorda maritime terminals.

General manager of EP Petroecuador, Pablo Luna, said: “The use of these facilities will not be subject to payment of a fee.

“Likewise, it will allow to have an additional alternative to the Balao Terminal for the export of crude oil and will reduce the loading times of the tankers, due to the capacity of the OCP pumps.”

The interconnection allows EP Petroecuador the use of OCP’s Maritime Terminal for the reception, storage and export of Crudo Oriente with a quality higher than 23° API.

The minister of energy and non-renewable natural resources, Juan Carlos Bermeo Calderón, stated that the delivery of this volume of crude was carried out through the very large crude carrier.

He said: “The use of this export alternative opens up new opportunities in the international market for Ecuadorian crude.

“In addition to maximising income from the commercialisation of oil and providing an alternative to buyers so that they can load larger capacity vessels, reducing their logistics costs.”
