CB&I, a wholly owned unrestricted subsidiary of McDermott, has secured a significant lump sum contract from the Saipem Clough joint venture. This contract involves the engineering, procurement, and construction of ammonia storage and various process tanks for the Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers Urea Plant, situated on the Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia.
As part of the project, CB&I will deliver EPC services for a 10,000MT full containment ammonia storage tank, including associated piping to grade, along with ten API650 storage tanks. The project will be managed from CB&I’s office in Perth, with additional support from its offices in Plainfield, Illinois, USA, and Thailand for engineering, fabrication, and tank construction.
Mark Butts, senior vice president of CB&I, commented on the contract award, stating that it underscores the company’s strong position as a leading tank builder in the ammonia storage tank market. He emphasised that CB&I would leverage its extensive tank building experience in Australia to enhance its portfolio in the region.
Construction activities for the project are anticipated to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with an expected completion date in 2028. The Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers development is poised to become the world’s largest gas stream ammonia-urea plant, located approximately eight kilometers from Dampier and 20 kilometers northwest of Karratha on the northwest coastline of Western Australia.
