CB&I, a subsidiary of McDermott, has announced the shipment of three out of five process assembly unit modules for Viva Energy Australia’s Gasoline Masterplan Project. The modules were dispatched from CB&I’s Kasemphol fabrication facility in Thailand and are en route to Viva Energy’s Geelong refinery in Victoria, Australia. This marks the second shipment of modules from the Kasemphol facility, which plays a critical role in the development of Viva Energy’s ultra-low sulphur gasoline plant.

The collaboration between McDermott’s Low Carbon Solutions business line and CB&I’s Kasemphol fabrication team has delivered an integrated solution for Viva Energy’s project. The scope of CB&I’s fabrication work includes five PAU modules and two pipe rack modules, all being delivered in three shipments. The first shipment, comprising the PAR modules, was completed in March 2024, and the final shipment of PAU modules is planned for late 2024.

Mark Butts, senior vice president for CB&I, commended the efforts of the local team, stating, “Our strong, local team remains focused on safety and execution excellence as it delivers the next shipment of modules and works toward completing the Gasoline Masterplan Project.” He highlighted the team’s commitment to solidifying CB&I’s Thailand execution office as a leading regional fabricator for mid-size process and pipe rack modules.

The Kasemphol fabrication facility, equipped with in-house capabilities, an assembly yard, and a network of local suppliers and subcontractors within an 80 km radius, was selected for its ability to efficiently deliver the modules on schedule. Fabrication began in the first quarter of 2023, and the final shipment will mark the conclusion of CB&I’s contributions to this significant project.
