BP has announced its successful bid for the NCMA 2 block, located offshore Trinidad, as part of the Shallow Water 2023/24 bid round, which concluded in May 2024. The block, situated approximately 30 miles off Trinidad’s northern coast, marks a significant expansion into a new exploration area for BP in Trinidad and Tobago. Currently, BP’s production in the region is concentrated in the Columbus Basin off the island’s east coast.

David Campbell, president of BP Trinidad and Tobago, expressed optimism about the venture, highlighting its importance for the continuity and growth of the industry. He noted BP’s extensive experience in Trinidad and Tobago, spanning over five decades, and the potential to leverage this expertise in exploring the NCMA region.

This development aligns with BP’s broader strategy in Trinidad and Tobago, focusing on tapping into new basins while optimising production in existing fields. Earlier in 2024, bpTT completed its infill drilling programme, announced the divestment of certain mature assets, partnered with EOG Resources for the Coconut development, and advanced the Cypre development drilling campaign towards completion. These milestones underscore BP’s commitment to sustaining and enhancing its operations in the region.
