Essar Oil (UK) Limited have announced their plan to invest £360m in a carbon capture plant. The plant will use HyNet’s infrastructure to eliminate nearly 40 percent of Stanlow Refinery’s carbon dioxide emissions – an estimated 0.81 million tons each year.
Viridor will be progressing engineering design work with Aker Carbon Capture for their carbon capture and storage plant at Runcorn. The project aims to capture around 1 million tons of carbon dioxide each year which will be locked away using HyNet’s infrastructure.
When in operation, these large-scale carbon capture projects will be some of the first of their kind in the world.
