Baker Hughes has been awarded a 13-year lifecycle services contract by Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) to support turbomachinery equipment at the company’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility on Bonny Island, Nigeria.
The long-term agreement builds on more than 20 years of collaboration between the two companies and will support the operational performance of NLNG’s Train 7 expansion project. Once completed, Train 7 is expected to increase the facility’s total LNG production capacity from 22 million to 30 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global LNG market.
Under the agreement, Baker Hughes will provide comprehensive lifecycle services for turbomachinery equipment supplied for the Train 7 project in 2021. The scope includes four heavy-duty gas turbines, associated centrifugal compressors, and two additional gas turbines dedicated to power generation.
The service programme will also incorporate support from a locally based Baker Hughes engineering team, together with the company’s iCenter™ digital services platform, powered by Cordant™, enabling remote equipment monitoring and diagnostics to improve reliability, availability and operational performance.
According to Nigeria LNG Limited, the agreement will help ensure the long-term success of the Train 7 project while supporting the company’s strategy to expand production capacity, strengthen Nigeria’s role as a competitive global energy supplier and contribute to lower-carbon energy solutions through increased natural gas production.
Baker Hughes said the contract further reinforces its long-standing relationship with NLNG and demonstrates its continued commitment to supporting energy infrastructure development across the region. The company noted that its lifecycle services, combined with local technical expertise, are designed to help maximise equipment performance and ensure reliable operations at the Bonny Island facility.
The Train 7 development represents a major milestone in Nigeria’s ambition to become one of the world’s leading LNG producers. Services under the agreement will be delivered through the Baker Hughes Service Center in Port Harcourt, which employs local engineering talent and provides a wide range of lifecycle support services for energy infrastructure across the country.
