Allan Stobart Lubricants & Fuels has announced significant expansion plans with the reopening of its storage depot in Carlisle, marking a strategic investment in the company’s distribution network. The Cumbrian-based oil distributor is revitalising its facility on the Kingstown Industrial Estate, which will increase the firm’s fuel storage capacity by more than 40 percent while providing enhanced access to major road networks for tanker operations.
The Parkhill Road site previously operated as a fuel depot for over 20 years until its closure in 2016, when operations were consolidated at Allan Stobart’s head office and depot at Raughton Head, near Dalston, Carlisle. The facility has been utilised for vehicle storage in recent years but will now return to its original function as part of the company’s strategic expansion.

Allan Stobart Lubricants & Fuels operates as part of WCF Ltd, recognised as one of the largest independent fuel oil distributors in the UK. The parent company also operates WCF Chandlers and WCF Fuels North West, positioning the group as a significant player in the regional fuel distribution market.
The reopened Carlisle site will operate alongside Allan Stobart’s existing depots at Raughton Head and Hexham, creating a comprehensive distribution network across the region. Planning permission for the site was granted earlier this year, with operations expected to commence by late autumn.
Steve Hindmarsh, general manager of Allan Stobart Lubricants & Fuels, explained that the business is responding to evolving market conditions by reinstating the depot. The site’s transformation includes the installation of new fuel storage tanks and on-site office space, representing a substantial investment in infrastructure and operational capabilities.
According to Hindmarsh, the expansion signals the company’s commitment to delivering optimal service to customers while adapting to the changing nature of fuel distribution. The increased storage capacity will enhance the company’s resilience during periods of peak demand and ensure rapid delivery capabilities to meet customer requirements.
The strategic location of the Kingstown depot offers improved access to main road infrastructure, positioning the company to better serve customers in southern Scotland. Allan Stobart plans to relocate some of its existing tanker fleet to the new facility, optimising distribution efficiency and expanding geographical reach.
The investment is expected to facilitate customer base expansion while maintaining service quality for existing clients. Allan Stobart Lubricants & Fuels serves a diverse customer base across North Cumbria, West Cumbria, the Eden Valley, southwest Scotland, Hexham, and the wider Tyne Valley, delivering commercial, agricultural, and domestic fuels.
The reopening of the Carlisle depot represents a significant milestone in the company’s growth strategy, demonstrating confidence in regional market opportunities and commitment to meeting evolving customer demands in the fuel distribution sector.
