BWC Terminals has been recognised with a 2025 AEU Safety Award, marking the second consecutive year the company has received the honour for its commitment to workplace safety.
Presented annually by American Equity Underwriters (AEU), a leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance for waterfront employers, the awards recognise member companies that demonstrate outstanding safety performance across the industry.

According to BWC, its Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) policy forms the foundation of its operational sustainability. The company has implemented systems, policies and procedures designed to manage both routine operations and emergency situations while minimising operational risks. Safety is embedded throughout the organisation through continuous employee training, workforce empowerment and ongoing management support.
Commenting on the achievement, Adam Smith, president and CEO of BWC Terminals, said the award reflects a company-wide commitment to maintaining a strong safety culture.
“Winning this award once again highlights something deeper than just a robust safety programme; it showcases a culture that our people embrace every day,” Smith said. “From our frontline employees to our leadership team, everyone shares the same commitment to look out for one another and ensure everyone goes home safe.”
Recipients of the AEU Safety Awards are selected based on the frequency and severity of workers’ compensation incidents during the previous calendar year, together with additional safety performance metrics evaluated by AEU’s loss control team.
Jason Lake, director of Loss Control at AEU, said this year’s winners represent the highest safety standards within the waterfront industry.
“The commitment of their management teams, supervisors, safety staff and employees all combine to create safety programs that are worthy of this recognition,” Lake said.
The latest award reinforces BWC Terminals’ ongoing focus on health and safety as a core component of its operations and long-term business strategy.
