Air Liquide Karabatan Tech Gases LLP (ALKTG) has signed a long-term agreement with Silleno LLP to supply nitrogen and compressed dry air to a planned polyethylene production facility in Kazakhstan, marking a significant expansion of Air Liquide’s presence in the country.

The project will involve an investment of approximately €70 million by ALKTG and is expected to support the development of Silleno’s polyethylene complex in the Karabatan basin in Atyrau. The facility forms part of broader efforts to establish the region as a major petrochemical hub.

Under the agreement, ALKTG will build, own and operate two high-purity, energy-efficient nitrogen production units. Once completed, the installation is expected to rank among the largest industrial gas facilities in Central Asia. Commissioning of the units and the start of gas deliveries are scheduled to coincide with the launch of Silleno’s polyethylene plant, currently targeted for late 2028.

The new industrial gas facility will be located within the National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark (NIPT) Special Economic Zone, adjacent to ALKTG’s existing air separation unit, which supplies nitrogen to Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries (KPI). The investment builds on ALKTG’s initial entry into the Karabatan basin in 2019 and is expected to strengthen operational synergies within the region’s growing petrochemical cluster.

Air Liquide has operated in Kazakhstan since 2016 through ALKTG, a joint venture that supports industrial customers in the country. The latest project also reinforces the company’s collaboration with KazMunayGas, a long-standing partner and a key stakeholder in the Silleno development.

According to Air Liquide, the agreement represents a new milestone in its Kazakhstan operations and aligns with its strategy of combining advanced industrial gas technologies with long-term regional industrial development.
