Lucía Cantero Martínez, a commercial engineer at Chane Terminal Le Havre, emphasises the necessity of progress for growth, stating, “If you want to grow, you have to move forward.” This philosophy underpins the terminal’s ongoing construction of Tankpit 23 in Normandy, France, which will be dedicated to heated products.

According to Lucía, the decision to construct Tankpit 23 follows an observed increase in customer demand, prompting the company to open Tankpit 22 in 2021. “The great thing about this new tankpit is that it will be heated with green steam, produced by reusing local waste,” she explains. This green steam is generated through a waste-to-energy process, ensuring a circular and low-emission heating solution. By utilising green steam, Chane Terminal reduces its heating-related emissions, thereby assisting clients in lowering their Scope 3 carbon footprint.

The Chane team in Le Havre aims to optimize the entire logistics chain for their clients. Lucía notes, “We don’t just handle the storage; we are involved in the entire procedure. We want our clients to feel like we are an extension of their own organization.” The new 20,000 cbm tankpit exemplifies this approach, with a focus on understanding customer needs to provide optimal solutions and enhance their logistics.

Flexibility is a key strength for Chane Terminal. Lucía highlights that their clients often change products multiple times a year within the same tank. “We’re able to add value to their logistics with our internal processes and assets, which allow us to store a large portfolio of products and offer ancillary services. Such flexibility is quite rare in the storage industry,” she says.

Looking ahead, Lucía expresses eagerness to fully understand their customers’ logistics operations. Tankpit 23 represents a significant advancement in this mission. “It’s our top project at the moment and we’re very happy that construction is moving totally on schedule,” she adds. The new tankpit is set to become operational in two stages in 2025, with the first half expected to launch in the first quarter of the year.
