Technip Energies, in collaboration with SBM Offshore, has secured a significant contract from TotalEnergies for the development of the GranMorgu Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading vessel. This ambitious project is located approximately 150 kilometres offshore in Block 58, marking the first FPSO development in Suriname.

The partnership between Technip Energies and SBM Offshore will see the construction and installation of the FPSO, drawing on Technip Energies’ extensive engineering and modularisation capabilities for the topsides, combined with SBM Offshore’s proprietary Fast4Ward® hull technology. This strategic collaboration aims to meet stringent environmental standards and operational efficiency.

The GranMorgu FPSO is designed with advanced features to significantly limit greenhouse gas emissions. Central to this objective is its all-electric drive configuration, which facilitates zero routine flaring and ensures complete reinjection of associated gas into the reservoirs. To enhance energy efficiency, the vessel will be equipped with Waste Heat Recovery Units and an optimised water cooling system. A robust methane detection and monitoring system, supported by a network of sensors, will be installed to maintain vigilant oversight of emissions.

Marco Villa, chief business officer of Technip Energies, expressed the company’s enthusiasm: “We are delighted to have been chosen by TotalEnergies, together with our partner SBM Offshore, for the GranMorgu FPSO project in Suriname. By utilising our modularisation expertise, we will design the topsides of this all-electric drive FPSO and oversee the fabrication process in collaboration with our partner. This award highlights Technip Energies’ established capability to incorporate technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in any type of industrial installation.”

This major contract, defined by Technip Energies as one exceeding €1 billion in revenue, underscores the company’s and its partners’ pivotal role in advancing sustainable and efficient offshore energy solutions.
