Perenco Colombia has successfully completed the drilling of three new development wells in the Paravare and Chaparrito fields, located in Casanare, onshore Colombia. Thanks to detailed seismic data analysis conducted by the geoscience team, Perenco identified new oil-rich channels in these fields, leading to the discovery of significant oil reserves.
The primary objective of the drilling campaign was to boost production, and the third well, PRV-03, drilled in the Paravare field, is currently undergoing optimisation. Following the installation of an electro submersible centrifugal pump, PRV-03 is producing 500 barrels of oil per day. In the Chaparrito field, the success of the CHP-03 well, drilled in 2023 at a depth of 1,500 metres on the edge of a newly discovered channel, prompted an additional drilling campaign. The size of the channel allowed for the drilling of two further wells in the same area.
Both wells yielded positive results. CHP-04 was drilled in the middle of the channel and CHP-05 in the northern section. CHP-04 is producing 3,380 bopd, while CHP-05 is delivering 550 bopd. With CHP-03 producing 2,300 bopd, the entire fairway is now fully covered, further enhancing the production capabilities of the field.
The successful drilling campaign has exceeded expectations, with the Chaparrito field now contributing approximately 40 percent of Perenco Colombia’s total production. Ongoing reprocessing of seismic data is underway to evaluate the potential for drilling in new channels, underscoring the company’s commitment to continuous exploration. The campaign, conducted during Colombia’s dry season, was executed in close collaboration with local communities and is considered a major achievement for Perenco Colombia.
