As TWTG continues to grow its NEON product family of industrial sensors, the Dutch IoT experts have added another IECEx/ATEX certified product to the range – an NFC Tag.

Developed for use in the oil and gas industry, a sector that requires the highest safety certifications for products in operation, it said the NEON NFC Tag will ensure that operators can digitally identify their assets – increasing automation, reducing errors and improving safety.

The NFC Tag is a passive data-storage sticker that can be attached to any asset. Easily accessible via NFC, recorded information is viewed on a handheld reader or tablet.

This process allows operators to quickly assign and identify assets and their linked data while supplying information into either a central dashboard or a DCS. Assets will have a digital fingerprint.

It said: “Utilising this method ensures faster implementation of associated IoT devices and ensures that many more assets can be correctly and efficiently logged into any system, avoiding an otherwise lengthy and error-prone process via a digital handshake.”

Joost Peters, TWTG’s NEON product owner, said: “Being able to use these tags within hazardous environments makes the operators’ jobs easier and provides certainty. Targeted monitoring of the equipment is critical to prevent failures and optimise asset management at industrial sites. The NEON NFC Tag can be paired easily with any industrial asset to provide insight and information.”

“The applications and use cases of these tags are extremely varied”, added Bart van der Meer, innovation lead at Vopak. “At Vopak, we’re planning to use it to, for example, validate flexible connections. The use of these tags is allowing us to develop smarter terminals.”
