Construction has started on the TurkStream Offshore Gas Pipeline’s receiving terminal. Run by South Stream Transport BV, the terminal project is one of three being completed in three areas: onshore Russia, onshore Turkey and offshore in the Black Sea.

Preparatory works for the terminal have been underway since 2015 when surveys were conducted to identify the best location for the facility. The results have been incorporated in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), which was approved by Turkish authorities in September 2017.

Petrofac won the contract for the build in September 2017 and has contracted Tekfen, one of Turkish leading construction companies, as its main subcontractor.

The works involve the preparation of the terminal site in the region of Thrace. In line with the requirements of the Turkish legislation, South Stream Transport B.V. has obtained a Forestry permit and has paid the necessary fees to the Forestry Directorate which includes the re-forestation fee.

The construction of the landfall facilities on the Russian side of the Black Sea, near the city of Anapa, is reaching its final stages of construction with completion due this year.

The Allseas vessel Pioneering Spirit is working on the two offshore pipelines.
