Sahara Tanzania, part of African energy and infrastructure conglomerate Sahara Group, has expanded its petroleum products terminal in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from 36 million to 72 million litres.
The terminal was originally commissioned in December 2017 with four storage tanks and ten loading arms. Following the expansion, there are now eight storage tanks and 20 loading arms.
Sahara says the expansion is in line with its commitment to ensuring the availability of top-quality fuel products to Tanzania and its neighbouring countries. Sahara Tanzania country manager Olumuyiwa Aladejana said the availability of petroleum products will help to spur economic development in the country.
There is an ongoing expansion project which will further increase the storage capacity for premium motor spirit (PMS)/petrol, and Jet A1. Sahara says that it expects the expansion to make the terminal one of Tanzania’s largest.
“It is also important to note that our terminal is automated, and we have since committed to the construction of two liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks which gives a total capacity of 6,000 m3 as part of Sahara’s drive for technological innovation and enhancing access to clean energy in Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi and Congo,” said Aladejana.
