The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has been shown a work plan by the Dangote group which indicated that its long-awaited refinery project in Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos is “estimated to be at 97 percent completion”.

On Wednesday, October 12, the NMDPRA posted on its official Facebook page that: “The presentation was made in a meeting attended by the Authority’s chief executive, engineer – Farouk Ahmed, and the executive directors, Francis Ogaree and Dr Mustapha Lamorde.”

The NMDPR chief executive, speaking at the meeting: “reiterated the importance of the Dangote Refinery to the country”, while also offering his assurance that the Authority will “give all necessary support to ensure timely completion and kickstart operations.”

When the facility finally gets underway it will be Africa’s largest oil refinery with a capacity of 650,000 barrels a day (b/d) and could be an important source of product for the west African bunker market.
