Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Qaiwan Group to provide engineering, procurement and construction management services for the new Xarajyan oil terminal in Iraqi Kurdistan.
The facility will handle petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, aviation turbine fuel, kerosene, fuel oil and liquefied petroleum gas.
Qaiwan Group is a privately-owned company headquartered in Sulaymaniyah, Iraqi Kurdistan. It operates across a broad range of sectors, including downstream oil, power generation, construction and infrastructure, real estate, education, pharmaceuticals and hospitality. Qaiwan Group’s Bazian refinery is one of the largest oil refineries in Iraqi Kurdistan, with a capacity of 40,000 bpd. Its 442MW power plant is a major contributor to domestic power needs.
Mott MacDonald will design the first phase of the 140,800 cbm terminal, auxiliary utilities and infrastructure facilities. The consultancy will also provide interface and procurement engineering services and will assist with pre-fabrication, construction and assembly engineering. Construction management will be delivered through a separate contract.
The terminal is scheduled to be completed by the second quarter of 2018.
