The family-run feed company from Mors, Mollerup Mølle, has just taken the first sod for four new warehouses totalling 8,000 square metres at Aalborg harbour.

Mollerup Mølle has more than 80 years behind it and in recent years has developed into a significant player in North Jutland, with a turnover of almost 1.5 billion kroner and production of just over 325,000 tonnes of feed annually. But the company is new to the Port of Aalborg.

The port activities have skilfully moved from the city centre to the east, which has resulted in a very attractive industrial area in Aalborg East. “We have been able to see tremendous growth in general in North Jutland in recent years, and we want to expand this development further,” said Søren Rathcke, chairman of the board, Mollerup Mølle.

“In addition to being a growing business area, the Port of Aalborg is also North Jutland’s traffic hub, and here we get direct access to efficient infrastructure by ship, railway and road, which is absolutely crucial for our business. It gives us much greater flexibility and increases our competitiveness in a larger geographical area that extends beyond Denmark’s borders.

“The optimisation of logistics opportunities is also about strengthening the foundation and being at the forefront of development,” she added.

“It is an important step in equipping our company for the future. In addition to operating in a strong agricultural area with many enterprising agricultural holdings, there are also long-term perspectives in it, because the Port of Aalborg has the right knowledge and the right framework for both business and physical growth for us as a company,” continued Søren Rathcke.

The four warehouses are not only intended for Mollerup Mill itself, but also for rent to other companies, which can rent either half or an entire warehouse depending on the need for storage capacity.

One of the crucial elements in construction is the framework for goods handling. The warehouses are, therefore, located close to the quay with sufficient water depth to be able to receive ships with more than 30,000 tonnes of cargo, and at the same time the multi-terminal, railway terminal and bridge weight are at hand.

Port of Aalborg also sees great prospects in Mollerup Mølle’s construction.

“It is a welcome expansion of the facilities at the Port of Aalborg that Mollerup Mill is building new warehouses and thereby helping to meet the increasing demand for storage capacity. It strengthens both Mollerup Mølle’s and other companies’ future opportunities. Collaboration is an important part of Port of Aalborg’s concept, and it therefore fits perfectly with our strategy when new players come in and contribute to solving a challenge that benefits more companies,” said Michael Rosenkilde Lind.

The four warehouses are expected to be ready for commissioning on an ongoing basis in 2022 starting from the second quarter.
