Canadian clean energy company AmmPower Corp is to supply green ammonia and hydrogen from a new bulk liquid terminal at Porto Central, a new deepwater port under development in Espírito Santo, Brazil.

AmmPower has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Porto Central to build a green ammonia production facility at the port and use the new liquid terminal for storage and distribution. It will assist in moving green hydrogen and ammonia throughout the region.

Porto Central will cover 20 million m2, and will have a 25 m draught. The first phase of development will include the Porto Central Energy Hub with a liquid bulk terminal to handle crude oil, petroleum products and LNG, to act as an energy distribution hub for the region.

Porto Central is strategically located in southeast Brazil, an area representing 65 percent of the country’s GDP, with a market of more than 100 million consumers. AmmPower will supply ammonia for uses including marine bunkering, hydrogen transport, energy infrastructure, and fertiliser. Brazil currently imports 90 percent of its fertiliser needs.

Dr Gary Benninger, AmmPower CEO, said: “This is an incredible step forward for AmmPower to be able to work with Porto Central to create one of the leading clean energy ports in the world. AmmPower’s technology will allow Porto Central to use green hydrogen and ammonia as fuel for the large ships at its port, as well as the small tugboats and other machinery.”
