Moroccan construction group Somagec and the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority (DPFZA) have signed an agreement to build a storage terminal at Djibouti Damerjog Industrial Park (DDIP).
The terminal will store refined petroleum and crude oil and will have a capacity of 150,000 m3. It will be the first of five terminals, which when complete, will have a total capacity of 750,000 m3. The terminals will facilitate the transit of refined products and regional trading and bunkering operations.
“We are delighted to achieve this important milestone in the development of DDIP petrochemical complex that will drive forward Djibouti’s and East Africa’s industrialisation, and position Djibouti as a petrochemical hub for the region,” DPFZA said.
The terminal development forms part of the wider Damerjog petrochemical complex, which also includes an oil jetty and refineries. Somagec is also constructing the 3 km long oil jetty. It began the work in September 2020.
