Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has lost a potential deal for the construction of up to seven floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) from US-based Excelerate Energy.

In February 2017, a Letter of Intent (LOI) for 173,400 cbm FSRUs with a caseload send-out capacity of 1 bcf/d was signed. Now, the shipbuilder was informed that the deal expired on May 8 without any contracts being agreed.

Excelerate Energy said at the singing of the agreement that the plan was to provide the company with the ability “to respond to increasing market demand for natural gas as its existing fleet of nine FSRUs become committed to long-term projects.”
