Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO), the operator of the Bonga field, has said Nigeria’s Bonga crude oil export terminal has “started routine maintenance” and has subsequently closed.

With recoverable reserves estimated at 600 mm/bbl of oil, Bonga is Nigeria’s first deepwater terminal. It is operated by SNEPCO under a production sharing agreement with its other partners.

Statutory recertification and critical asset integrity activities are part of the maintenance being carried out. The maintenance on the Bonga floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) began on 21 May 2020.

Bonga was scheduled to load 127,000 bpd in June, up slightly from May at 123,000 bpd.
